MultiMech models defects in several ways
- Through a priori insertion of voids into the FE microstructural model
- Throuh the introduction of cracks/displacement discontinuities as the simulation progresses
- Through standard element deletion and element stiffness reduction techniques
Further, the software's proprietary mathematical approach allows it to calculate homogenized properties with exact expressions even in the case of explicit crack growth. The only approximation is the FE discretization itself - which is commonly accepted in industry and easy to control by refining the mesh.
The goal of all damage modeling within the software it capture the physics of the deformation and its resulting effects on the system properties. To that end, we are always open implement new physics-based damage options based on clients needs.
